You guys have heard me talk about how my love of running started with my parents. My mom and Dad instilled in my sister and I an active lifestyle and a love for races. But what you may not know is my Dads personal story of overcoming adversity that lead to a our now official BRAND “Gotta Be Tuff.”
If you know my Dad you know he is one of the most hardworking men there is 🙌🏼 He’s overcome SO many challenges in his life (addiction, losing his right hand, business hardships) & I can honestly say he is my sister & I’s hero 😍 For years now he has had this dream of starting the Gotta Be Tuff Brand 💪🏼We’ve talked about it over coffee, at family game nights, or on our countless runs together! 👫
How the single mom who goes to night school is Tuff. How the cancer survivor, policeman, military spouse, full time nurses are all Tuff! The busy mom who loses 80 lbs & has a goal just to walk that first 5k. That it’s something from the INSIDE that gets them through the day to day obstacles 🙌🏼 It’s a mindset, it’s a never give up attitude & it’s the ONLY choice in the matter 👌🏼We are beyond thrilled that Gotta Be Tuff is no longer a dream but a REALITY and we are officially OPEN! I feel beyond blessed to be a part of this new family adventure & cant wait to see what God is going to do with Gotta Be Tuff 😍
I wanted to share with y’all about Gotta Be Tuff, because we want it to be MORE than just t-shirts. We want it to be MORE than just coffee cups, we want it to be a REMINDER to anyone who has either overcame something OR is currently going through something, that you CAN do hard things, you CAN and WILL get through it, You just Gotta Be Tuff!
My own Gotta Be Tuff story starts on June 1st, 1988.
29 years ago, My mom had an emergency c section at 6 months pregnant. She gave birth to two tiny identical twins, both under 2 lbs each. Shortly after, my twin sister Alanna, passed on and went to Heaven. I stayed in the hospital for 3 more months until I was strong enough to breathe on her own.
The doctors said that I would be a human vegetable & wheel chair bound with limited mobility. But my parents & their oldest daughter Danielle (along with countless friends and family) prayed & believed that I would be a fighter, that I would do beyond what the doctors projected.
At 12 weeks, I was able to go home to be with my parents & sister Danielle. I have never had a single health issue & I’m so thankful for her parents who stayed strong.
At the age of 25, David and I were happily married and wanted nothing more than a baby of our own. Diagnosed with PCOS, David and I, faced 4.5 years of infertility & struggled with wondering if we would ever have children. In 2011 Alesha, gave birth to their miracle baby “Annabelle”. Just 2.5 years later they had their second daughter. My hope now is that my blog will encourage other women to never give up hope! I know that not matter what challenges Life presents you can get through them, you just “Gotta Be Tuff!
